My Sunshade on my 2010 Q5 did the exact same matter this past weekend. It started when I opened the sun roof slightly the fabric started to ruffle in the air current and the i side
came out of the track. And so I opened the lord's day shade and it got all bunched up. Today I had to remove it. I would like to supplant information technology. I would also similar to get the lord's day roof removal instructions from spijun.

For a temp fix I am going to utilise "corex" sign plastic covered in fabric and attach it to the sun roof with Velcro.

SPIJUN tin you email me the sunday roof removal instructions? Thanks, Tom

Howdy, I was able to figure out how to remove the roof liner and the sunshade. I was able to save the sunshade only that I am now trying to effigy out how to re-glue the fabric to the metal strips. I'm simply still wondering if is worth the hassle or if is fifty-fifty possible to sucessfuly reach it.

Removing the headliner took me abou 2 hours merely I basically went for it blindsided. If anybody needs guidedance I tin explain by phone and then that person could post it for the balance.

Let me know.

Removing the headliner took me abou ii hours just I basically went for it blindsided. If anybody needs guidedance I can explain by telephone and then that person could post it for the rest.

Let me know.

I only finished this job this past weekend.

First off I got a good laugh at the dealer. The car came with a tertiary party warranty, and like a rookie I assumed it would cover the sunshade, nope. And so i drop it off at the dealer who charged me $170 to look at information technology and so tell me that they wanted $1500 in labor plus $400 in parts. $1900. Aye thats reasonable.

So i ordered the role, remember it came out to $310, and i received the black metal case where the sunshade rolls into and the sunshade, just you lot should never take to supercede the metal example, you lot should just club the sunshade instead.

Anyway And then i take my car from the dealer, let me tell you this task is block.

The headliner does not have to be removed. You only have to loosen information technology in the rear. So pull out the plastic center slice that covers the finish of the headliner in the trunk, then there is a button in the heart that holds the headliner into the rear section of the automobile, Just apply a flathead to push button in the tabs on each side and pull downwards. next you need to release the two side pillars on the very rear, remove the coat hanger on each side and so pull the pillar back and it will popular out.

Next you demand a t20, pull down the head liner, should be loose enough at present, notice the two t20 screws that concur in the sunshade metal housing, boom its out.

At present to remove the sunshade textile, hop into the drivers seat, retract the sunroof glass and then turn the knob a lilliputian more than, this volition push the glass into service mode. There are two t20'due south that need to be removed here one on each front corner of the rear drinking glass panel. Remove those. Annotation that betwixt teh chassis and the glass there is a pair of spacer washers, don't lose those in a second. Ok now become inside of the motorcar, into the rear seat, grab a flathead and find the rubber lining that goes next to the rear glass console. Run the flathead through the sides of that console in the safe gasket, and yous will find that backside the gasket at that place are two notches for ii more t20'due south on each side of the drinking glass, remove those. Cool, now push button back the front end glass into its regular position, and pop out the rear glass. put the rear drinking glass on a towel or something soft. move the sunshade all the way to the rear position and so it is at the far dorsum, now you will find two t20'south at the rear of the place where the glass console used to be, remove those, and then right adjacent to those screws are a set of tabs, pry them outward and upward with a flathead or pick, and you volition now encounter that yous tin remove the metal bar that pulls and pushes the sunshade fabrick. Remove the two grey tabs on each side and so simply slide the bar off of the fabric.

Took me 2 hours to practise this whole affair, not even close to 15 but I suppose thats why they call it the stealership

I don't only its pretty cocky explanatory, start at the trunk and remove the plastic, and so there will exist a tab into the roof that needs to be pressed in on both sides. After that, you pretty much just have to pull at the pillars and remove the stuff that is bolted on liek glaze hooks and such

The sunshade I received from genuineaudiparts.com doesn't friction match what came out of my car! The metal strips don't accept the same slots to line up with the plastic caps (the plastic parts plug the aluminum bar and pull the metal bound steel in it'due south track)....Has anyone experienced this? My new headliner came with a small metal insert on the cease of each spring steel curl through a hole that is sized differently than the one on my existing sunshade (the leap steel is where the sunshade is glued to the metallic), and I can't get the grey plastic caps through the spring steel the same fashion my original does. Is there an updated plastic cap part? Help?

You just demand the shade. Metal box is reusable, though I struggled to find the shade without the box

And are these the coat hangers? I tried to popular those out with a flathead, but that didn't seem to work either. [IMG][/IMG]

I think if I tin can only go past the initial steps I'm good to go. Appreciate any response.

Investigated this for about a year and replaced mine yesterday. Bought the sunshade of eBay for $40 (aftermarket) and took me most 7 hours removing the headliner. Hardest parts were removing the grab handles. The plastic expander that makes the metal grip clip into the roof was a hurting. The other was the plastic guides that slide in the track that the metallic of the sunshade is attached to. The trick I can propose is to remove the metallic hook on the plastic guide and go information technology and the metal of the shade into the rail. Then snap it into the guide and onto the guide tab. Happy to answer any Qs if you like.

Id intended on removing the whole sunroof from the roof but in one case I removed the metal piece from the plastic tabs its really piece of cake to fit the metal of the sunshade into the guide. And so, never removed the sunroof. I did have to remove the rear glass section the roof though, but that comes out from the meridian, you need to remove that to take access. can't do it without removing that glass section.

The sunshade in my 2010 Q5 started to rip off on the right side some months ago, and information technology got worse over fourth dimension. Afterwards studying the posts hither, I ordered a new sunshade at eBay for USD 67. Information technology came with the ii plastic catches that connect the forepart aluminum contour of the sunshade to its drive. I did not need the sunshade housing, that was not damaged and did non need replacement. I was able to replace the sunshade concluding weekend.

The catchy part for me was to put the new sunshade dorsum into the auto because the metallic bound bands want to pull the shade back into its housing, and because with the new sunshade I got, the interface between the plastic catch and the sunshade had changed which makes it difficult for repair. I found a mode around both issues, and created a stride by step didactics how to practise the replacement. Unfortunately, I couldn't upload the document hither.

Contact me if you are interested!

I'm stuck at the point of getting the metal bands of the sunshade back into the track. The problem is that they don't come up frontwards in-line with the track, they seem to come in at an angle, and want to pull off the rails equally the shade moves towards the front end of the car. My guess is that the metal bands are not fed thru the end caps of the housing properly. I'one thousand pretty sure they curled and shifted as I was putting the housing in.

So dorsum to the cartoon board. Practice whatever of yous know a fashion to secure the metal bands to the housing so they don't curl upwardly and pop out of the cease caps? Any suggestions would be keen! Thanks.
